As I read Holley’s prompt I thought of 2 things: Smile and Pray.

The first word that came to mind was  “Smile”.   The concept is simple. It can be effortless.  It is contagious.

How often do you smile at others?

How often do you smile at yourself?

When someone smiles at me, I instinctively smile back. It is that little bit of grace we can give, so easily, without words that will touch and brighten someone’s day.

Often I will purposely walk through the store and do something seemingly inconspicuous but it draws someone’s attention away from what they are doing.  I once had my Physical Science class conduct an experiment to see how many times they could tempt people to make the ‘fish-lips’ face after they themselves had purposely done it.  A few of them tried it, and many just wouldn’t.  However, let me tell you, as one who has done it a time or two herself, that it is just like the contagious smile. People stop, instinctively pucker their lips  and before you know it, they are copying you.  It is hilarious.  Then they laugh. They LAUGH.

Laughter is catching. Recently on the radio station the announcers shared the laughing song. It was silly really, but it had our entire car roaring. Even if they thought it was not funny, everyone was actually laughing.

You see, I don’t confess to be a funny person, but there are times when even I, in all my seriousness can see the  need for the child-like faith that contagious laughter requires.  When we laugh, we abandon reality and we experience joy.

Science proves that laughter is a healing medicine to the soul. So is a smile in a crowded store, full of people who are bustling here and there, trying to meet their deadlines, filling up their schedules, missing the beauty right in front of them. Sometimes all it takes is a smile.

  • A smile to believe that someone else felt I was worthy of their time and their attention.
  • A smile that shows I am not the lone ranger.
  • A smile that reveals a heart behind the mask so many of us wear.
  • A smile that shows hope, even when the wearer has no idea what your day held.

When  you smile you are boldly wearing a beautiful adornment that no one can match.   Your smile is all your own, you stand out.

  • A smile moves from your lips to your eyes and reflects the inner beauty of your heart.
  • A smile ministers to the hurting heart to convey compassion.
  • A smile offers an encoruagement to the one who is needing a lift.
  • A smile ensures acceptance in the struggle.
  • A smile is a gift we can all give, so easily, so effortlessly, so freely.

Small Gifts Equal Big Blessings

The second word is one of my favorites, Pray.  I am sojourning in the world of prayer this month as I am taking a journey on this topic, so forgive me for the redundancy. But if there is one word that I would relish being redundant with it is the word, Pray.

Prayer is no small thing, don’t get me wrong. Prayer is huge. It is colossal.  But I am thinking of breath prayers here. Not the ones where you are wearing your armor and you are warring in that battle strong.  Though, I know that these breath prayers are just as powerful as any intercession. {You  know.. it is because of the source, right? }He is the strength behind the answered prayer. He is the movement behind the mountain’s demise. He is the origin behind the miracle. He is the very one who orchestrates those breath prayers and the intercession in our lives.

Have you ever found yourself right in the middle of something and a person’s name forms on your lips, or pops into your thinking? Or just out of the blue you feel the need to call a friend you have not seen in ages, or perhaps… in keeping with today’s modern technology.. send a text?

Those moments when your soul is awakened and the burden upon your heart is strong are the breath praying moments I am thinking of.  I have lost count of those times, but I have never failed to be amazed at the outcome. Like I should be, because we are talking about God.

Do you want to know what astounds me more?          When someone does it for me.

And it shouldn’t because we have such a good and gracious Heavenly Father who loves us more than we’ll really ever know and a Savior who is interceeding for us every single day.

  • But it does surprise us,  and it is this small gift that brings big blessing.
  • It is that quick note which says, “I am praying for you.”
  • It’s the short, but sweet, text that says.. Praying. Hugs.
  • It may be the FB response that ensures someone is going to bat for  you.
  • Or perhaps it was that  phone call that came at just the right time to ask, “Hey,girlfriend, everything ok? You are on my mind.”

Those are the breath prayer moments, friends. The moment that His breath utters your name into the heart of the hearer, beckoning us to battle with Him for each other.

Breath Prayers and Smiles.. are those 2 small gifts that make my heart flitter flop and my faith grow because they are extensions of HIS mercy and love towards us. They are a continual reminder that He is always on our side.

1 John 4:4 ~ Greater is He who is in you that He that is in the World.

If God is for us, who can be against us. ( Romans 8:31) And friends … if God is for us.. then we are for each other and there is so much to smile about. There is so much hope because your name is on his lips and  your image is tatooed upon His hands.. you are ever before him.

Isaiah 49:16 ~ Behold I have imprinted you upon my hands, your walls are continually before me.
